Southampton aim to bolster mid-table position and see out the year in style

This is the Saints’ third season in the Barclays WSL 2 (formerly known as the Barclays Women’s Championship), after gaining back-to-back promotion in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns.

They have played nine league fixtures so far, having secured three of each possible result: winning, drawing and losing. This means they have twelve points on board and sit in sixth place.

With two fixtures remaining in 2025, Simon Parker’s side look to build upon recent performances and see the year out with six points in six.

In 2019, at just twenty-years-old, she won the WSL Golden Glove award for keeping the most clean sheets in the season, setting a record for being the youngest goalkeeper to win the award at the time.

Known for playing an outfield style of goalkeeping, Roebuck tends to use her feet a lot, which made many think that she would suit Barcelona’s playing style perfectly, considering they are a very technical team.

Opening the final international break of 2025 with an impressive 8-0 win against the Asian Champions, China, Sarina Wiegman’s England looked to build upon this success in their final friendly against Ghana.

The Lionesses have been in great form recently after retaining their title of European Champions this summer. In the previous international window, they had mixed results in their friendlies: a 3-0 win against Australia at Pride Park Stadium, but a 2-1 defeat to Brazil at the Etihad.  

The last time the Lionesses faced China was in the group stages of the 2023 World Cup, where they dominated 6-1. In the last five meetings of the two teams England managed two wins, now making this three in six.

Andrée Jegerletz’s City side are in top form, overtaking Chelsea at the top of the table following a vulnerable defensive performance from the Blues. Meanwhile Liverpool and West Ham picked up their first points of the campaign. Gareth Taylor and Rehanne Skinner are pleased to be off the mark after a challenging start but must continue to compete at the bottom.

In the build-up to the international break, the WSL saw some unexpected results with a huge thirty-four goals score across these two game weeks.
