Millie Bright OBE will step away from the pitch, but her legacy will live on at the heart of Chelsea Football Club: a career defined by leadership, community and resilience. The Blues’ Captain and former Lioness has announced her full retirement from football with immediate effect.

The all-time record appearance holder in the Barclays Women’s Super League made 314 appearances as a Blue. During her twelve years at Chelsea, she lifted a remarkable twenty trophies and inspired positive changes for both the club and community.

From captaining the Lionesses at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, to leading Chelsea onto the pitch week-in-week-out, there is no doubt that her career has been shaped by magical moments while representing her pride and fortitude for the badge. For one final time, the club and fans will present the Captain with farewells and gratitude at Stamford Bridge ahead of the season finale.

Two of the nation’s best battled it out for the converted opportunity to play under the Wembley Arch in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final. Newly crowned Barclays Women’s Super League Champions, Manchester City took on six-time FA Cup winners Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a tight Semi Final clash.

It’s been a season where the two teams in blue have swapped places: Chelsea, who have been so dominant domestically winning the last six WSL trophies, now sit second in the league whilst Andrée Jeglertz, formally of Denmark Women and Umeå IK, in his debut season at the club has led Manchester City to their first league title in ten years.

This was the second Semi Final played between the sides this season, after Wieke Kaptein’s header sent Chelsea to the Subway League Cup Final, the Blues’ first trophy of the season. However, City left Stamford Bridge victorious with a 3-2 victory secured by Khadija Bunny Shaw in the first half of extra time. Despite two first-half goals from Erin Cuthbert and Sam Kerr for Chelsea, their hopes were shattered by Mary Fowler and Shaw’s late second-half goals to push for half an hour extra time in the Cup tie.

Chelsea hosted Manchester United in the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Kingsmeadow on Sunday. Last year’s finalists were unlucky with the draw, having one exit early in the competition.

Only one point separates the sides in the Barclays Women’s Super League, so this fixture was set to be an exciting contest that tested both sides on the back of a heavy fixture schedule.

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Women’s Super League with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in front of a crowd of 9,356 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, maintaining their push for a top-three finish during a turbulent period for the club.  

Under pressure following consecutive league defeats and a week of intense external scrutiny, Chelsea Women delivered a composed and clinical performance when it mattered most, punishing missed opportunities from Tottenham Hotspur Women, who had entered the match just one point the reigning champions.

Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge for the most played fixture in the Barclays Women’s Super League: the London Derby.

Ahead of kick off, Chelsea are in second place in the WSL table, six points behind current front runners, Manchester City. Arsenal are level with North London rivals, taking third place due to a higher goal difference.

While Chelsea have 27 points on board, Arsenal look to close the gap between the two London sides. With only 23 points, a win today will edge the Gunners closer to the Blues and their title ambitions.

Chelsea Women ran riot at Stamford Bridge in their second match of the newly revamped Women's Champions League group stage. 

Goals from Sandy Baltimore and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd fired up the Blues, with Erin Cuthbert and Alyssa Thompson sealing the deal in the second half. It was a much-improved performance from head coach, Sonia Bompastor’s side, after the team drew 2-2 at FC Twente last time out.

Starting with a back three, Bompastor relied on Millie Bright, Nathalie Björn, and Baltimore to provide a strong defensive line, with Aggie Beever-Jones leading the attack.

The Blues head into the match top of the WSL table. However, they only secured a 2–2 draw against FC Twente in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during the week. 

With the Barclays Women’s Super League back underway, Chelsea are determined to continue their unbeaten run under Sonia Bompastor. In her second season with the club, she has her sights set on surpassing last season’s achievement of the domestic treble: the UEFA Women’s Champions League is yet to be achieved.

However, with focus on the WSL, Bompastor spoke to the media about her squad and how she will maximise the quality within it.

Chelsea Women moved to the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table after an early goal from Aggie Beever-Jones at Kingsmeadow.

Beever-Jones struck in the 7th minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing a right-footed effort high into the net. It was her seventh of the campaign, underlining her status as Chelsea’s most prolific forward this season. 

The Blues had lost just one of their previous forty-nine home league matches (forty-six wins, two draws) and extended their unbeaten WSL run to twenty-eight games, their last defeat coming against Liverpool in May 2024.

Her departure in 2024 marked the beginning of a fresh chapter under new head coach, Sonia Bompastor, whose arrival heralded a new style of play, tactical formations, and a dynamic influx of talent.

The Blues have a rich history of success. Since 2015, Chelsea has dominated the WSL with eight league titles, six of these being won consecutively. Hayes influenced this decade of dominance for the London side, Bompastor will continue this legacy.
