Queen’s Park Rangers Women are navigating a new chapter of growth and success, where they shine a light on team culture, youth and grassroots development, alongside being highly ambitious for the 2025/26 season.

QPR play in the Division One South East, the fourth tier of the women’s football pyramid, after securing promotion in 2021. The team currently sit fourth in the league table, with four wins, two draws, and two losses. The team plan on securing promotion to Tier 3, the FA Women’s National League, through playoffs next season. 

On Sunday, the club face Luton Town on the big stage at Loftus Road in the FAWNL Cup, hoping to welcome another record crowd in a tough contest for the women’s side.

The Football Foundation, Premier League and the FA came together to celebrate twenty-five years of driving grassroots impact across football at an event in south London. 

 Featuring past stars such as Fara Williams and Anton Ferdinand, the event aimed to shine a spotlight on the work done to provide grassroots facility improvements for all, regardless of gender, race, disability or place. 

AFC Bournemouth Women are on an incredible run of form, with an unbeaten streak of over nine hundred days. During this period, they earned promotion to tier three and now compete in the FA Women’s National League, Southern Premier Division. This is an incredible feat for the Cherries.

The team have big ambitions to continue their remarkable form and gain promotion to the Barclays WSL 2, and eventually the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Freya Godfrey made her move to the independent club, London City Lionesses permanent this summer.

The young Lioness progressed through the ranks of the Arsenal academy and signed her first professional contract in red, ahead of moving to a new part of London.

However, with such a talented squad, the youngster must graft hard on and off the pitch to secure vital minutes for the club.

Ellie Brazil plays as a forward for Southampton FC Women. Having joined the Saints in the summer, she is an exciting prospect who is wonderful with the ball at her feet.

She has been capped for England throughout her youth (from under-15 to under-23 level), proving her to be a confident player.

Club-wise, she currently plays for Southampton in the Barclays WSL 2 (the second tier of women’s football in England). Her journey is certainly a testament to her hard work and determination beyond the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur Women manager Martin Ho insists his side are ready to meet the demanding nature of the Barclays Women’s Super League, despite an “emotional week” on and off the pitch.

In comparison to last season, the team are already showing great progress. However, it is important they remain grounded and resilient to maintain consistency.

England is not just white: it is a spectrum of races and identities

With the growth of women's football and even in its early stages, a major positive of the game has been the space that it creates for minority groups, particularly for women and the intersection that has with the LGBTQIA+ community.

There is no doubt that the creation of such spaces and events should be celebrated… However, an issue that lies in the game and extends to the media and events that surround it, is race. It is something that has been witnessed on multiple occasions.

As the women’s game grows, these issues should arguably become more apparent and as a result resolutions are put in place, or at least that should be the case, but it most certainly is not.

Kerolin Nicoli’s journey to the pinnacle of women’s football is anything but ordinary. Born in Brasília, Brazil’s vibrant capital, she experienced a childhood shaped by financial struggles and a serious health scare that nearly ended her career before it began.

Despite these challenges, she developed a deep love for football — playing barefoot with boys on the streets and later sharpening her coordination through capoeira. Even then, it was clear she had something special: a blend of raw talent and quiet determination that set her apart.

The talent goes beyond those starting on the pitch 

Following the Lionesses victory in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, it was clear that every single player was key to their success. Although only eleven are on the pitch at once, all twenty-three play a part in lifting the EURO trophy.

Looking back on 2022, players including Alessia Russo and Ella Toone were used as impact substitutes; they changed the game in the second half. Now, they are regular starters in a squad of European Champions.

Now that the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is over, the Lionesses are trailblazers in women’s football.

After six memorable years at Tottenham Hotspur FC, Becky Spencer is returning to Chelsea for her next chapter. Following a loan spell with the Barclays Women’s Super League Champions, the goalkeeper signed a permanent one-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year. 

Despite departing the club with a lack of silverware, the Jamaica international won the hearts of fans with her confidence, gentle personality, and incredible technique.

History is made for Wales. For the first time, the Wales Women’s National team are one of sixteen nations to qualify for the UEFA Women’s European Championships. With the tournament taking place in Switzerland, this will be the trip of a lifetime for Rhian Wilkinson’s Welsh squad.

Whilst so many big names feature in the EUROs, this tournament may seem even more special for the Welsh team, being their first time out on such a big stage.
