Can Exciting Summer Signings Move Ipswich Town Up the WSL2 Table?
Ipswich Town Women head into the Barclays WSL2 2026/27 season looking to build on last year's ninth place finish. After a busy summer of recruitment, David Wright's side have added plenty of quality to the squad as they aim to make further progress in the second tier. With several new faces arriving, there is plenty of optimism ahead of the new campaign.
Ipswich have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer, making twelve new signings ahead of the season. Now, these squad developments and exciting new prospects need to encourage more consistency in performance, pushing the club to more victories and elevated success.
Several Summer Signings
After a successful loan spell last season, forward Kit Graham became their first signing of the summer. Graham proved her quality, scoring twice in a crucial 3-0 victory over Birmingham City. Now signed on a permanent deal following seven years at Tottenham Hotspur, Graham will be expected to play a leading role in Ipswich’s attack once again.
Another new face at the club is 20 year old Rosie Livingstone. She had a successful season with Scottish side Hibernian and is a part of the Scotland U23s, the winger scored seven goals along with 13 assists in her 25/26 campaign, signalling her quality and skill to move forward up the pitch. Joining from relegated Portsmouth, left winger Megan Hornby hopes to bring extra quality to the squad after scoring eight goals in 20 matches for Pompey last season, along with proving she can perform in the WSL2 as a standout for former club Blackburn Rovers.
Also arriving at the club is Scottish midfielder Jenna Slattery. Slattery was a part of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Champions last season, scoring 9 goals along with assisting six. As well as being selected in the League of Ireland's Team of the year, she also received the division's Golden Boot, signalling her quality and skill.
The club's fifth signing of the transfer window is midfielder Aimee Palmer, following the expiry of her contract at Southampton. Palmer has also represented England until U21 level, as well as two-time Women’s Championship winner. Her previous experience will hopefully add to the group.
Another signing is Georgia Hunter, a centre back who signed for Ipswich on a two year deal from Hearts, who gained their first league title last season. Hunter has progressed through the past 12 seasons at Hearts and has gained almost 300 appearances.
The seventh signing for Ipswich is 22 year old forward Eilidh Adams, becoming the second player to sign from Hibs. Throughout her nine years at Hibs, her performances earned her the Scottish Women’s Premier League Young Player of the Year award.
Another striker arriving at the club is Georgia Timms, who makes another signing from Scottish champions Hearts. Through Timms 19 goals and 6 assists, she also received the club’s Golden Boot award.
Following half a season on loan from Birmingham City, winger Ava Baker returns with ambitions for the squad. Baker also represents England in the U20 squad, as well as scoring once and making two assists during her last spell at Ipswich.
Centre back Kenzie Weir has also returned to the squad on a permanent basis, after signing for the blues on loan from Everton in January. Weir has also contributed towards important goals in games near the end of the season, scoring in both games against Sheffield and Sunderland.
Emma Lawton, who is a right back, joined Ipswich on a three year deal from Celtic. She had been with the Scottish side for the past two seasons, contributing to the victory of the Scottish Women’s Cup in the last season. Lawton will also bring more international experience to the squad, after representing Scotland’s senior side.
The last summer signing for the Blues is winger Tegan McGowan who has spent the last two seasons at Birmingham. She initially was a part of Chelsea’s academy before moving to Charlton in 2022. McGowan spent the second half of last season with Southampton, before making the move to the Tractor Girls.
With a strong squad full of skill and ambitions for the season ahead, Ipswich Town now prepare for their first WSL2 game of the season against Nottingham Forest, where they look to make a statement ahead of a tough 2026/27 campaign.
Once the new additions integrate into the squad, switching up the starting XI with improved squad depth and versatility, the club could be a surprise contender for a high finish in the league.
