Olivia Holdt “excited for the future” with long-term Spurs deal
Signed in the January transfer window of 2025, Olivia Holdt has already emerged as a highly technical and class player for Tottenham Hotspur Women.
The Danish midfielder contributes significantly to the midfield battle with her fast footwork and ability to create opportunities through intelligent visions and skilful passages of play.
Earlier this week, Spurs announced the agreement of a long-term contract which seals Holdt’s future at the club for years to come. Not only a sign of her commitment to Spurs and continuation , but also her belief in the long-term ambitions and vision of the club under new head coach, Martin Ho.
Tottenham so far
Since signing for Tottenham Hotspur, Holdt has made a lasting impact and stands out as one of the most technically able footballers in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Already, she has executed several goalscoring opportunities to perfection and picked up numerous Barclays Player of the Match awards.
Her first spell in Lilywhite came in the second half of the 2024/25 season, where she made eleven WSL appearances, scoring one goal and one assist. However, from her debut it became clear that she adds something magical to the Spurs’ goalscoring threat.
As for the 2025/26, the midfielder has established herself well in Ho’s starting eleven and is constantly pushing for success on the domestic stage. In seventeen WSL appearances so far, she has netted six goals and secured three assists to contribute to the Lilywhite’s improved form and top half of the table ambitions.
Most recently, Holdt provided Spurs’ only goal in a 5-1 defeat to current league leaders, Manchester City. Although a heavy defeat is far from Ho’s ideal result, the Danish international sparked hopes of a comeback to make the game 1-1 with an adept run from her own half.
On Holdt’s new deal, Ho praised her work ethic and personality on the field:
“Her personality on and off the pitch is infectious, and I feel she has even more levels in her. We just need to give her the environment and the coaching to enable herself to see that, feel that, and have the confidence to do that.”
Confidence and talent are certainly two words to credit Holdt’s performance, as she brings consistency and tactical execution to an ambitious Tottenham side. As an attacking midfielder, she feeds the ball across the pitch and fills in the gaps when required: from a central-attacking player to a winger, she is relied on when needed and never fails to challenge the opposition.
International form
In 2021, Holdt made her debut for the Danish international team following success with DBK Fortuna Hjørring. Since she has regularly made the senior squad, more recently earning more minutes and starts for Denmark.
Another milestone came in 2023, when she scored her first senior international goal in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifiers. Her goal contribution helped Denmark secure their place in the competition, despite an earlier exit than perhaps they would have expected.
In the first international break of 2026, Holdt proved herself worthy of a place in the starting eleven. In a FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier, she scored Denmark’s equaliser against Italy for a 1-1 draw; this edged the Danish side one step closer to their 2027 World Cup dream.
Should they be successful in the qualifying rounds, Holdt will certainly have her sights set on a long-term future with the Danish National Team, and a place in the World Cup squad. She certainly embodies potential and believes she can raise her game to the next level with her Denmark career at the forefront of her mind.
What the future holds
Only twenty-four years of age, the future is bright for Holdt. Domestically, she will continue to thrive at Tottenham Hotspur under Ho. His ambitions with the club are clear, and the Danish attacker playing a pivotal role in the long-term trajectory. Although Spurs will fall short of their top three goal this season, missing out on a chance to qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, there is no doubt they will continue to perform next season and challenge higher up the table.
Speaking on her future with Spurs, Holdt was very excited to announce her new contract:
“I’m very, very happy to be staying at the Club. I feel very content every day, and I’m just excited for the future… I feel like I’m in a really good place in my career, I’m in a good environment where I can develop every day in training with amazing staff and teammates that help to push me.”
Whilst on the international stage, she continues to impress and fight for her starting spot in the team. In particular, with her sights set on the Women’s World Cup in Brazil next year. Surrounded by experienced and young players, she learns from those around her and strives to elevate her game in a Denmark shirt.
One thing that is certain is that Holdt is a young talent who is certainly being recognised on the world stage for her footballing intelligence and magic footwork. This is only the start of her journey on the pitch.
